DSO Entity’s Third Consecutive Participation at Enlit Europe: A Resounding Success in Bilbao

For the third year in a row, DSO Entity proudly joined Enlit Europe, the flagship energy-sector event that brings together industries, experts, and stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the future of the energy sector. Held this year in Bilbao, Spain, Enlit once again proved to be an essential meeting point to discuss key challenges and opportunities, from decarbonization to the digitalization of the energy system.

Throughout the event, DSO Entity representatives contributed to several insightful panel discussions, bringing forward the voice and experience of European DSOs.

Optimizing Grid Planning & Exploring Digitopia

Alco de Lange (Stedin) participated in two thought-provoking sessions.
In a panel on grid planning optimization, he emphasized DSO Entity’s commitment to sharing best practices across Europe, while reminding the audience that “one size fits all” approaches seldom work when tackling the complexity of energy systems. Later, in Eurelectric’s Digitopia session, he further contributed to discussions on digital transformation across the sector.

Demand-Side Flexibility & Local Service Markets

Hubert Dupin (Enedis) explored the evolving landscape of demand-side flexibility, highlighting how commercial and industrial consumers now have stronger incentives to adapt and scale flexible solutions. He also shared emerging examples of local service markets that can significantly improve the efficiency of network development.

Security of Supply & DSO Entity’s Technical Vision

Oliver Franz (E.ON), Chair of TF FIN, addressed the critical topic of security of supply, reconnecting with DSO Entity’s Technical Vision. He outlined the major progress achieved across several workstreams in the past year, noting the two core resilience challenges:

  • adapting rapidly to climate change, and
  • strengthening cybersecurity and defense mechanisms.

Smart Grid Innovation & Policy Reflections

Our Board member Ramon Gallart Fernandez (Anell), took part in the ETIP-SNET policy session on smart grid innovation, sharing the stage with our Board member Luis Vale Cunha (E-REDES). Luis Vale Cunha also joined the session “Supply Chain Resiliency in an Uncertain World”, where he reflected on DSO Entity’s ongoing work on the Grid Action Plan, especially focusing on the crucial topic of strengthening the supply chain.

Podcast Recording: Grid Capacity Crunch

We had the chance to record a podcast episode featuring Alco de Lange and Oliver Franz, who joined Yusuf Latief to discuss the ongoing power grid capacity crunch in Germany and the Netherlands. The video is now available here.

Digital Twins & the DSO4DT Project

The Horizon Europe project DSO4DT held the Digital Twins Experts Meetup – Perspectives and Collaboration in the Energy Sector, moderated by Stephan Gross. After presenting the project’s progress, including findings from Deliverable 1.2 on first needs assessments, participants engaged in a rich and productive exchange.

Rethinking Flexibility

During the session “A Flexibility Rethink” our Expert Group Distributed Flexibility Chair Torsten Knop (E.ON), discussed DSO Entity’s vision of flexibility and the needs ahead. He emphasized how the Network Code on Demand Response represents a major opportunity to unlock distributed flexibility. The discussion, moderated by Michael Villa (SmartEn), also included Alvaro Ryan Murúa (Iberdrola), highlighting strong representation from DSOs.

A Successful and Inspiring Enlit Europe 2025

DSO Entity’s third year at Enlit Europe was marked by insightful exchanges, strong representation in key sessions, and meaningful interactions with our members and partners. The event reaffirmed our role as a central voice for European DSOs and highlighted the collective commitment to building a smarter, more resilient, and more flexible energy system.

Looking forward to continuing the conversation next year and to driving forward the energy transition together!
