ENTSO-E and DSO Entity launched Capacitypedia to improve access to grid hosting capacity information across Europe

DSO Entity and ENTSO-E are pleased to announce the launch of Capacitypedia, a new digital portal providing an overview of publicly available grid hosting capacity information at both transmission and distribution levels. Presented  during the high-level panel on Affordable and Engaging Grid Expansion on 22 May at the 12th Energy Infrastructure Forum in Copenhagen.

Capacitypedia is a joint initiative between ENTSO-E and DSO Entity that aims to enhance accessibility to publicly available grid hosting capacity information across Europe. The portal presents hosting capacity information voluntarily provided by participating Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and Transmission System Operators (TSOs). It complements grid hosting capacity publications at national level by providing a structured overview of information published by different system operators, making it easier for users to navigate and compare, while offering specific context. The ownership and collaboration between TSOs and DSOs reinforce the validity of information published and lay the groundwork for future developments.

This joint digital portal provides links to national webpages where users can access the original information published by the relevant country and/or system operator. It also features an overview map with colour-coded countries indicating the availability of TSO and DSO hosting capacity information within the Capacitypedia portal. Information is structured through country and operator pages, allowing users to choose the level of detail required. The portal will be updated regularly to ensure the availability of the most up-to-date information.

The publication of Capacitypedia marks a key milestone in TSO-DSO cooperation, improving transparency, coordination, and knowledge-sharing among European system operators.

Background information

The Joint Task Force (JTF) was established by DSO Entity and ENTSO-E to perform the task foreseen in the Action 6 of the EU Action Plan for Grids – launched by the European Commission in November 2023, which invites the two associations to establish a pan-EU overview of available grid hosting capacities. The JTF is composed of experts from DSO Entity and ENTSO-E from various DSOs and TSOs across Europe that joined forces in a collaborative effort to gather key information essential for understanding grid hosting capacity in different European countries.
