Horizon Europe DSO4DT: Boosting DSOs and Digital Twin Activities. DSO Entity kick-off webinar takeaways

On 20 February, DSO Entity hosted an introductory webinar to mark the launch of its Horizon Europe project, “DSO4DT: Boosting DSOs and Digital Twin Activities.” Funded by the European Commission The session provided a comprehensive overview of this pioneering initiative, outlining its objectives, key milestones, and work plan for the next three years.

The webinar dove deep into the critical role of Digital Twins in strengthening Distribution System Operators (DSOs) across Europe. We had the pleasure to have among the speakers Mr. George Păunescu (Policy Officer at DG ENER Unit B.4 – Digitalisation, Competitiveness, Research, and Innovation), who emphasised the strong collaboration between DSO Entity, ENTSO-E and the European Commission on the topic. Also, he acknowledged the challenges DSOs face in implementing Digital Twins and highlighted the need to further develop these technologies to enhance grid operations.

Following the Commission’s intervention, for the Secretariat, Stephan Gross presented an in-depth overview of DSO4DT project, explaining its role in bringing together European DSOs, digitalisation experts, and key industry stakeholders. In fact, the project aims to foster collaboration, share best practices, and build a strong community to support Digital Twin advancements in the energy sector.

The project is structured around three core objectives:

  1. Mobilising DSO Entity’s members to support European Digital Twin activities
  2. Boosting the uptake of Digital Twins, smart grid solutions, and innovative grid technologies
  3. Enhancing DSO Entity’s digital, operational, and technical expertise to empower its members

During the webinar, an overview of the project’s work packages was provided, illustrating its roadmap toward impactful results.

We invite all relevant stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the future of Digital Twins in the energy sector. We look forward to collaborating on this project and encouraging all interested parties to contribute to building an active community that will drive Digital Twin development for Europe’s distribution grids!
